Grilled Burgers with Special Sauce

Virtually all fast-food sandwiches come with their “special sauce” composed of a mixture of mayonnaise, ketchup, yellow mustard, either pickle juice or pickle relish, and probably garlic and onion powder. Each one adds small amounts of additional spices so they can claim to be different and better. However, a simple combination of the above ingredients provides a good approximation.
Ground beef
Buns
Lettuce, tomato, onion, pickles, etc.
If serving a group, prepare the patties by forming slightly more than 1/4 pound of ground beef into a ball and flattening it using a press to make perfect hamburger patties.

Place the burgers on a wax paper covered tray and refrigerate for at least one hour.

Prepare the “special sauce” (recipe follows) and refrigerate it for at least one hour. Prepare the grill for direct cooking over a hot fire. Grill the burgers, lid closed, for 3 minutes per side.

Serve the burgers, sauce, and condiments for guests to assemble their own.
