Grilled Mushroom Burger
Hamburgers are always in the top two grill items, but they do not have to be simply grilled ground beef patties. A wide variety of ingredients can be added. My wife loves mushrooms.
1 pound lean ground beef
2 large fresh mushrooms
1/4 yellow onion
1 teaspoons salt
Fresh ground black pepper
Roughly chop the mushrooms and onion into a 1/4 inch chop. Combine all ingredients and knead to thoroughly mix. I have begun using disposable gloves to knead ground meat. It is more sanitary and eliminates the meat from sticking to your hands.
Form the mixture into 3 to 4 patties. Place the burgers on pieces of wax paper on a plate or tray. This facilitates handling and keeps the plate clean for serving the grilled burgers.
Refrigerating the burgers for 30 minutes will help to hold them together. Prepare the grill for hot, direct cooking. Grill the burgers (lid closed) for 4 minutes per side, then turn and grill for an additional 2 minutes on the first side.
